Hosta Liner Vulcan
Hosta Liner Vulcan
Hosta ‘Vulcan’ is a bold and vigorous variegated hosta introduced by Hans Hansen of Shady Oaks Nursery in 2007 as a sport of the popular ‘Captain Kirk’. This cultivar is especially valued for its high contrast foliage and stronger growth habit compared to many white-centered hostas.
The leaves feature a creamy white center surrounded by a dark green margin, with occasional golden-yellow streaking along the interior margins where the colors overlap. This subtle streaking adds extra visual interest and depth to the foliage, particularly early in the season. ‘Vulcan’ is known for its above-average vigor for a white-centered hosta, forming a substantial clump with good substance and garden presence.
In mid to late summer, pale lavender flowers are produced on upright scapes above the foliage. While attractive in bloom, ‘Vulcan’ is primarily grown for its striking foliage and reliable performance in shaded landscapes.
A strong and dependable variegated hosta well suited for borders, specimen plantings, and mixed shade gardens.
