Hosta ‘Blue Mouse Ears’

Hosta ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ is a beloved miniature hosta and one of the most recognizable small hostas ever introduced. Registered by Emile and Jane Deckert and selected as Hosta of the Year in 2008, this cultivar is prized for its perfectly proportioned size, thick blue foliage, and exceptional garden performance.

The small, round, deeply cupped leaves are blue-green in color and notably thick, giving the plant excellent slug resistance compared to many other miniatures. The foliage forms a dense, tidy mound that maintains its shape throughout the growing season, making it ideal for edging, containers, trough gardens, and small shaded spaces.

In mid-summer, short scapes rise just above the foliage, producing pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers with subtle striping. While flowering is attractive, ‘Blue Mouse Ears’ is grown primarily for its charming foliage and compact habit.

This cultivar is a sport of ‘Blue Cadet’ and remains one of the best small hostas available for both collectors and everyday garden use.
